Garden Update

 My little seeds made it!
The strawberries, however, died. Two times. They were supposed to thrive in that first box. They were going to have a whole bed to themselves to make those wonderful little berries for my smoothies. If I can find healthy plants/plugs somewhere, I think I'll try a third time. I'm nothing if not stubborn determined.

Well, I had some extra pepper plants and no real place to put the cosmos, so I threw them in there. It's a very roomy space, but I couldn't have a big ol' box of dirt sitting there all summer, could I?

{Cosmos}

{Chile)

{Red Romaine}

{Spinach}

{Italian Green Beans}

{Dill}

{Basil}

{Black Seeded Simpson Lettuce}

{Tomatoes}
We have a variety of tomato plants, and would you believe I didn't label them? Bad gardener. I guess I'll figure it out eventually. There is a mix of cherry, Roma, Amish Paste, beef steak, and pear.
In between the tomato plants, we're trying to grow black beans. I hope they do well, but I think something has been munching on them. We'll see. I originally planted carrots and beets, too, but they didn't make it.
I didn't get a close-up of the peppers...we have Chilies and Hungarian Wax. We like 'em spicy :)

{Sweet potatoes}

{My compost pile}

{An attempt to maximize our small space...tomato and pepper plants share a pot on our deck}

A planter hung on the rail of the deck holds parsley, basil, and oregano.

I know it's a small garden set-up, but I love that I don't have to till it! This year, I laid brick between the boxes so mowing is a lot easier, too. We started the season with a lot of rain and a good bit of doubt about our plants surviving, (let alone thriving) so we're thankful for anything that makes it to the table. I've also been helping in a 'community' garden with three other families. I'm hoping to harvest some produce for the freezer through that time and labor.

How's your gardening going?
I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend!

I only have a couple of decks {live on second and third floor}, but over the years I have planted a lot of strawberries. Right now it looks like I'm going to have a pretty big harvest. Unfortunately I won't be able to enjoy that since we will be gone for so long. My neighbor will be watering them and my husband eating them.

Your garden looks great! Everythings growing well, and it looks so neat and tidy. I'm seriously going to have to build some of those boxes for next year.
